Devilish Review

So I just finished Devilish by Maureen Johnson and—you won’t believe it—I actually really liked it a lot.
Yes! I found a book that I really enjoyed. It came out in 2006 so it’s not super new but I found it to be a very good read.
The story is about a girl named Jane who’s super smart and when her best friend, Allison begins acting very strangely, it isn’t long before she finds a mysterious connection with Allison’s strange behavior and the arrival of a devious girl named Lanalee. It’s very fast paced and intriguing with twists and turns from left and right.
I think the writing style used in the book was really what made it interesting. The writing is very fluid and that’s something I’ve always liked about Maureen Johnson’s style. The characters in her story are always very open and easy to relate to because of her easy-going writing techniques. She always finds a way to string the perfect blend of words together to make something both intriguing and funny.
Honestly, I couldn’t put this book down. The characters were very easy to relate to and realistic. I think Jane's personality was very overstated but, I think, that most protagonists should have overly dramatized personalities in order to make them stand out to the reader. Also, Jane’s narration provides good insight on the story and adds a bit of comic relief.
The plot is kind of ridiculous but that doesn’t make it any less amazing. Sometimes ridiculous is good, everyone needs a little ridiculous in their lives. There is so much awesomeness in this book, you will not be able to put it down. If you need a fun, fast-paced book to read, I would seriously recommend it.
