Finding the Perfect Book

Finding a good book can be a very, very hard thing to do. There are just so many books out there!  And you might have to read a few lousy ones before you find one you really like, but once that fantastic piece of literature is found, it makes the whole search worthwhile.

I find books to read in a few different ways. One of my most common tactics is to look at the recommended books for me on Amazon or I go to one of my favorite books and see what other books are recommended for people who like that particular piece of literature. It can be a little tedious, but there’s no telling what wondrous new worlds you will stumble upon.
There are also a few websites that can help you find your way through the endless supply of books that can be found on the internet. I like to use a website called The Book Seer is a magical website where you can simply type in your favorite book and a wonderful display of various books you might find appealing will appear. You can get to this website by placing your cursor upon and clicking this link. Another website is Which Books and this website uses a different way to help you search for new books to read but you might find it more helpful. I will magically transport you to that website if you simply click here.
On a more nerdy note, I like to look up which books have won awards every year. Call me geeky, but I’m always interested in which YA books have won awards such as the National Book Award and the Michael L. Printz Award. If you can go to the Young Adult Library Services Association’s website, there is a list of all of the various awards and which books were given each award over the years. I’ve found this to be extremely helpful and have found many of my favorite books this way. However, there are a few books that were awarded but were, I believe, quite undeserving of these awards *cough* Going Bovine *cough* but it's all a matter of opinion, I suppose. Sometimes they get it right. You can check out the YALSA website by clicking here. And here is the list of the top 2010 Best Books for Adults can also be found on the YALSA website. You can get to that fantastic list of literaturistic goodness by clicking here.
Another way to find a fantastic book to read is by reading book blogs such as The Millions Blog. Book blogs can help guide you through the many books that there are to be found. But sometimes you have to take what the reviewers say with a grain of salt, what may not be their cup of tea might be yours. To get to The Millions Blog, click here. Tricked you! Click here, instead.
And last, but not least, if you want a good book to read, just check out my blog. I read and review the best (and worst) YA books around. But I’m incredibly picky about the types of books I read, as you may have already guessed, and the books that I find appealing usually aren’t everyone’s favorite. But you never know, there might be one or two of you out there who have the strange taste in literature as I do.
So how do you find good books to read? Any tips or tricks you’d like to share? I’d love to hear from you!

I go thrift shopping... and always find forgotten books there. You wouldn't believe how many good books you can find there.
