Writing Contests

     I love to write. You love to write. So we might as well make some money while we write, right? Here are some short story and poetry competitions that you can enter some of your work to and maybe make hundreds of dollars and become famous and all of that fun stuff.

Annual Writer’s Digest Competition
Deadline: May 2, 2011.

GRAND PRIZE: $3,000 cash and a trip to New York City to meet with editors or agents. Writer's Digest will fly you and a guest to The Big Apple for the conference. While you're there, a Writer's Digest editor will arrange for you to meet and share your work with four editors or agents!


The Writer's 2011 Short-Story Contest
Deadline: April 30, 2011.

First prize: $1,000; a free 10-week creative writing workshop offered online by Gotham Writers' Workshop ($420 value); publication in The Writer and on WriterMag.com; and a one-year subscription to The Writer.

Creative Communication Poetry Contest
Deadline: April 05, 2011

First Prize: $50 savings bond, special recognition in the book, and a free copy of the anthology that is created from the contest.

Aura Estrada Short Story Contest
Deadline: October 1, 2011
First Prize: The winning author will receive $1,500 and have his or her work published in Boston Review, the summer of 2012.


The Dream Quest One Poetry and Writing Contest
Deadline: July 31, 2011
First Prize: $250.00 in cash.
